What a cookie is
This is a translation provided for convenience. The Russian version of this document, published at gmeurasia.com, is the legally binding one; in case of any discrepancy, the Russian text prevails.
A cookie is a small file a site stores in the visitor’s browser so that it can recognise the same browser on the next request.
What this site uses
gmeurasia.com uses only technical cookies, without which the request form does not work: a session identifier and a one-time code that protects the submission from being forged by another page. These cookies are deleted when the browser is closed.
No advertising or marketing cookies are used. Visitor statistics are kept by our own counter, which writes no cookies at all. Yandex.Metrica and Google Analytics set their own cookies, and they load only after you agree to it — see the next section.
No social network pixels or recommendation systems are installed on the site.
Visitor statistics
Visits are counted by three counters, and they work differently.
Our own counter (Matomo) is installed on the same server as the site. It writes no cookies, anonymises the IP address down to the subnet — 45.130.0.0 instead of the full address — and shares nothing with anyone. It always runs and needs no consent.
Yandex.Metrica and Google Analytics are external services. They write cookies and share visit data with their owners, Yandex LLC and Google LLC. These start only after the visitor presses “Accept” in the bar at the bottom of the screen; if the visitor declines, their scripts are not loaded at all.
Google Analytics is not used on the Chinese version of the site: its domains are not reachable from mainland China.
To change the decision, clear the site data in the browser settings — the question will be asked again.
How consent is asked
Consent is only needed for cookies the site works fine without: the ones set by external counters. So the question is asked once, in a narrow bar at the bottom, not in a window covering the content — and both buttons, “Accept” and “Only what is necessary”, look the same: this is a choice, not a nudge.
Until the visitor answers, external counters do not run. The answer is kept in the browser’s local storage, not in a cookie.
How to opt out
Cookies can be blocked in the browser settings, and stored ones can be deleted. The site stays fully readable, but the request form stops working: without a session the server cannot tell a visitor from an automated submission. In that case a request can be sent by phone, messenger or email.
Server logs
Regardless of cookies, the server records in its technical logs the IP address, the date and time of the request, the address of the requested page and browser details. These records are kept for no longer than six months and are used only to investigate failures and to protect the site from automated submissions.
